35 Percent Faster to the Wood

In its new logistics centre, the Slovenian company Obenauf now stores up to 13-metre-long construction timber in 5.7-metre-high cantilever racks from OHRA instead of on the floor as before. The building materials dealer, which specialises in the needs of roofers and carpenters, thus increased the speed of the storage and retrieval processes by 35 percent compared to the previous block storage.

Fast delivery

With a high stock of articles, Obenauf ensures fast delivery, even in small quantities, directly to its customers' warehouses. To continue to guarantee this high delivery capacity, the company built the new warehouse at the Kranj site. It supplies roofers, carpenters, and manufacturers of prefabricated houses with building materials and semi-finished parts. During the planning phase, the focus was on additional storage possibilities for up to 13-metre-long construction timber, as roofers and carpenters increasingly demand these items from Obenauf. Until then, the company stored these timbers as well as 6-metre-long sandwich panels for roof insulation on the floor in block storage. This made it difficult to access the individual articles and repeatedly caused damage during handling. In addition, the goods were previously unprotected from the weather in the outdoor area.

Weather protection

To simplify access to the materials and to make the entire storage and retrieval process more efficient, Obenauf decided to equip the yard with cantilever racking from OHRA. The company has already been using racking systems from the European market leader for cantilever racking for several years. OHRA installed two rows of single-sided and two double sided racks for the yard. On six storage levels and with 1.25 metre long, clip in cantilever arms, they offer significantly more storage space than would be possible with floor storage. Roof beams are mounted at the top of the columns; the two-metre-deep roof with an incline of 6 degrees protects the stored goods from the weather.

More efficient storage processes

OHRA delivered the racks within three months, they were assembled directly upon delivery. This allowed the new logistics centre to open on time. With the new warehouse, Obenauf was able to reduce damage to the stored goods, significantly increase the efficiency of the storage processes and at the same time increase delivery reliability once again. "Many carpenters and roofers have meanwhile visited our new distribution centre to get an impression of what we have realised together with OHRA. Thanks to the cantilever racks, they get a very good overview of the variety of goods currently stored with us," says Gregor Grilc, Managing Director at Obenauf
